Advanced Blind & Shade Story:
Built on Friendship, Family & Integrity
Two young men, best friends, decided to start a new business in 1989—a mobile blind cleaning service. They purchased a used blind-cleaning truck and began their journey. Going door to door, they hung flyers at businesses and residential homes. They did this for about two years. It was a slow process, and they were barely making ends meet. Their wives supported them during this time, helping to keep things afloat. Still, they weren’t sure how much longer they could keep going.
Then something shifted—some of their customers began asking if they also sold new window coverings. So, the two friends began offering new products while continuing to clean blinds. Their motto had always been: If we offer good service, treat customers with honesty and respect, and provide fair pricing, the business will grow. And it did. They leased a retail space in Soquel—still their current location—and expanded their offerings. Their wives helped run the store and manage daily operations, while the two men visited homes and businesses to measure, consult, and install window coverings.
Eventually, they decided to start manufacturing their own window coverings, beginning with cellular shades and later adding 2-inch blinds and verticals. They brought on another business partner—another close friend—and added a few employees to the team.
As demand grew, so did their product line. They began manufacturing shutters, roller shades, and sheer shades locally.
The business took off. They continued to grow, hired more employees, and eventually opened a second location in Monterey. And the rest, as they say, is history.
